Acoustic Soup tonight – last at the “old” Co-op

admin | September 1, 2010 4:05 pm

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the September edition of Acoustic Soup will be held on Wednesday, 1 September. Same time, same place, same vibe, but with a few extras…. we will be licensed, and have extra goodies like cake as well as fabulous home-made soup.

Since the 4 Acoustic Soup Nights until the end of the year will all be fund-raisers, if people would like to contribute, it would be good if they came and helped man the bar… or helped to set up beforehand, or clean up afterward. Any co-op member volunteering in this way will get a stamp on their membership card.

The last four Acoustic Soups of this year are also evolving into fundraisers for the Food Co-op, which is facing many financial mountains with the new premises. Even more reason to eat, drink and be merry, listen to great music, and know your pennies are funding the betterment of the community institution the Food Co-op is. Now onto the important stuff….

This month’s soups;
Honey roasted carrot soup with ginger
Cuban black bean soup

Price:
Full price: $8.50
Members/students: $7

Time: 6:30 – 9:30pm
Date: Wednesday 1 September 2010

This is the last event held in the Co-op’s current location – new premises will be moved into well and truly before the October edition of Acoustic Soup. If you wish to volunteer, please email acousticsoupnight@gmail.com – help is always welcome, and you can earn stamps for signing up. Also, if you wish to perform, please try to contact us before the night. Not that you can’t play if you just rock up, but it’s good to know who’s playing beforehand, and let everybody else know too!

admin | August 26, 2010 8:49 pm

Finally, a new location for the Co-op’s premises – map follows at the end of this post.

Our new, temporary location is in the car park behind The Conservation Council demountable on Childers St. The building will be rotated 180 degrees so that The Co-op will be at the northern end and Canberra Dance Theater will be at the southern end. This is to allow for truck access to our ramp and loading areas for deliveries. Since we will be in a car park, there will obviously be parking available but I currently do not know whether there will be any allocated, free parking or not.

On Monday, September 13, the crew from Baulderstone will start to dismantle this building. Since it needs to be vacant by that date, we will start to empty it as soon as we have containers delivered to the car park behind this building. I should have a date for the delivery next week. Please remember that any member assistance is welcomed and anyone who notifies me of this will be informed as soon as I am able to draw up a roster with exact dates.

Baulderstone has said we can take possession of the re-located premises on approximately September 24, since this is a Friday, we may use that following weekend to re-stock and open for business as usual on Tuesday, September 28. I will confirm this later.

Thank you for your patience and continued custom during this pre-move period. Inevitably we have had to run down our stock in preparation for moving. But now that we have an exact date, I have gotten in a good supply of fresh fruit and vegetables for you to stock up on. Also we are having a special on fresh noodles. 450gm packs of fresh Absolute Organic Soba, Hokkien and Udon noodles are $2.85 per pack before any member’s discounts. I know what my family is having for dinner. :)

Jess from local food blog Capital Cravings has done a great review of the Co-op – check out the post here

Still no definite news on our new home, but lots of fresh food!

Barbara | 4:34 pm

I was hoping that I would have definite news about when we will be moving by today.{ I know, you can hear the “but” already.} But still no official date. I apologise for any inconvenience this is causing due to low or depleted stocks. One thing I can say is that we have been asked to empty this building and it will be separated into 15 sections. So I’m sure you will appreciate my dilemma. “To stock or not to stock?” Without a doubt, we will re-stock fully once we have re-located.

Enjoy your week.

Co-op relocation news and fresh food delivery

admin | August 19, 2010 6:12 pm

Greetings Shoppers,

Just as I sat down to write this, Aaron, the fellow from Baulderstone in charge of our relocation arrived. He explained the process but we are still uncertain of the date. Early September seems likely though not certain yet. We will be needing help in the pack down, set up and related jobs. Any member who is able to assist will be given 1 butterfly stamp per hour worked so this will be a good opportunity to bring your hours up to date and even into the future if you are keen and helpful. As soon as I know the date, I will put together a roster for helpers. Thanking you in advance for volunteering.

Enjoy your week.

Are you the new Co-op secretary?

Barbara | August 12, 2010 9:07 pm
The Management Committee is looking for a new secretary.  If anyone would like to take on this job, we would be grateful and you would have the opportunity to make a difference with a like-minded group of members.
Please think about it and let Babs at the Co-op know if you are interested or have questions.   More information about the position.

Otherwise we are still waiting to hear from ANUExchange as to where and when we will be moving but don’t worry, you will be the first to know!

Acoustic Soup is back!

admin | August 5, 2010 8:54 pm

Acoustic Soup will be happening every second Wednesday of the month, 6:30-9:30 at the Co-op on the Corner of Barry Drive and Kingsley Street, Acton (opposite Toad Hall and Drill Hall Gallery)

We will be cooking up on Wednesday 11 August, and this month it’s good old-fashioned pumpkin and a chickpea soup with Moroccan flavours.

Come down and enjoy and/or perform, eat some healthful soup to warm you from the winter cold, and support the Food Co-op.

Performers always wanted! Come and play a couple of songs, or if you would like to earn a bowl of yum for free do a longer set (20 mins minimum). Any type of performer(s) welcome – musos, poets, circus acts, mimes, comedians…….

Students/Members $7 Non-Members $8.50

Email acousticsoupnight@gmail.com for enquiries or to book a performance place on the night. Or find the group on Facebook: Acoustic Soup at the Food Co-op.  Look forward to seeing you there!!
