Receive recognition for your leadership and contribution towards NOWaste!

Information against the following criteria should be detailed and comprehensive to best allow for a favourable assessment of your submission. Include quantitative information where possible. Pictures demonstrating activities and outcomes in support of your submission are welcomed. The information provided in your submission will assist in both the determination of award recipients and in the development of winning submission case studies.


Contents

Amount of waste avoidance, reduction, re-use and/or recycling.

Provide details of your organisations waste minimisation efforts through avoidance, reduction, reuse and recycling of materials that would otherwise go to waste.

For example:

  • Working with suppliers to implement initiatives to minimise packaging material.
  • Setting printers and photocopiers to print multiple pages to a sheet and double sided as default.
  • Actively seeking resources using re-used or recycled materials and products.
  • Introduced and/or increased paper, mixed materials and/or organics recycling within your organisation.


Leadership, innovation and originality of resource efficiency initiatives.

Detail your organisations efforts that are new or different to established waste minimisation practices.

For example:

  • Developed markets for materials that would otherwise go to waste.
  • Developed a use for a material that would otherwise go to waste.
  • Redesigned business processes to minimise waste generation.
  • Developed a new technology to assist in waste minimisation.


Comprehensiveness of resource efficiency initiatives across all aspects of the organisation (integration of various systems, practices, etc.).

Explain how your waste minimisation initiatives are integrated into your organisation to facilitate a total waste reduction.

For example:

  • An initiative that originated within one section of the organisation was extended across the entire organisation.
  • Integration with broader environmental practices and programs within the organisation.
  • Integration with all organisation stakeholders to maximise the benefits of the initiatives.
  • An initiative that addresses all waste produced by an organisation.


Cost effectiveness of the initiative(s).

Outline the financial implications of your waste minimisation efforts and how this has impacted on your organisation.

For example:

  • Cost avoidance through minimising materials purchased.
  • Cost avoidance through reusing "waste" materials.
  • Profit generation through establishing markets for "waste" materials.
  • Cost avoidance through reduced "waste" disposal fees.


Potential for broader use.

Detail how your waste minimisation initiatives can be or have been adopted by other organisations.

For example:

  • Inclusion of external stakeholders in the implementation of your initiative.
  • Promotion of your initiative through the media and industry associations.
  • Documentation of activities and outcomes that is available for reference by external organisations.
  • Adoption of your initiatives by external organisations.
